Report on Kuma River Boat Tours Reopening Support Activities Associated with the July 2020 (Reiwa 2) Torrential Rains

We deeply appreciate for your continued support for the activities of Smile Up !Project.

Johnny’s Group is pleased to report that it has decided to support the reopening of Kuma River Boat Tours, one of the traditional nature experiences in Hitoyoshi Kuma area, Kumamoto, as part of the Smile Up! Project.

Our decision to support the Kuma River Boat Tours dates back to the torrential rains that occurred in July 2020.

When we saw the situation in Hitoyoshi Kuma area, which suffered driving torrential rains for a number of days and sustained the most serious damage among the areas hit by the disaster, we were reminded of the memory of the Kumamoto Earthquake in 2016. Kumamoto prefecture has been struck by some significant natural disasters in recent years, with a repeated experience of disaster and reconstruction. Driven by our wish to make people in Kumamoto smile, we had the opportunity to talk with people in Hitoyoshi City, Kumamoto. While we heard about the damage caused by the torrential rains, we learned that boats were carried away and people had difficulty in reopening the Kuma River Boat Tours. Hoping that its reopening would make this area, which has rich natural environment, a place where people gather with a smile once again, we decided to support them.

For this support, the Group delivered part of its proceeds from video content and charity songs, distributed as part of the Smile Up! Project at the time of the torrential rains in July 2020, as support grants for the reopening of the Kuma River Boat Tours.

We are grateful for everyone who watched the content to make this support a reality.

Part of the proceeds we received from everyone from Smile Up! Project activities were delivered to people involved in the reopening of the Kuma River Boat Tours as follows.

[Support for Reopening of the Kuma River Boat Tours Associated with the July 2020 (Reiwa 2) Torrential Rains]
1.Support grants: 2,500,000 yen
Delivered to: Hitoyoshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture

2.Used for: Equipment related to the new boat “KUMAGAWA1”
Furniture for customers at “Kyushu Pancake Cafe Hitoyoshi HASSENBA shop”

Because the reconstruction work was delayed due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the fact that the area suffered torrential rains this year too, the reopening of the Kuma River Boat Tours had to be extended to the next Spring. We would be grateful for your understanding of our need to report this now, so long after the torrential rains. Viewing the people who have never given up and who have been working hard to reopen the Kuma River Boat Tours even in the adverse situation of the delayed reopening, we have renewed our wish to deliver smiles to everyone through entertainment.

Although it might be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, we sincerely hope that triggered by the reopening of the Kuma River Boat Tours, many people will visit the place to enjoy the beautiful nature in Hitoyoshi.

Even if in a small way, Johnny’s Group will do our best to be of assistance through the Smile Up! Project activities, and we thank you for your support moving forward.

We hope that the affected areas recover as soon as possible.
